Cedarwood oil

Cedarwood oil is an important natural plant fragrance, classified as an aromatic oil. It is a pale yellow to yellow clear oily liquid with the characteristic aroma of cedarwood. The main components of cedarwood oil include α-cedrene, β-cedrene, thujopsene, and cedrol, among others. Through isolation and chemical synthesis, it can be processed into a series of products.

Used in blending fragrances for cosmetics and soaps.

It is an important fragrance for blending soap and cosmetic scents, particularly in large quantities in sandalwood-type fragrances. Additionally, cedrol and cedrene can be isolated from it, and further synthesized into fragrances such as cedryl acetate, cedryl methyl ether, and acetyl cedrene.

Preparation

Using the roots, trunks, or by-products of cedarwood as raw materials, crude oil is extracted through steam distillation, with an oil yield of 1-6%. The crude cedarwood oil is then refined through fractional distillation to obtain purified cedarwood oil.
